Richard came to me, after an emergency visit to hospital brought home the overwhelming reality of the risks that come with being type 2 diabetic. Alongside a sepsis infection and at one point the possibility of losing his foot.
This was possibly one of the hardest wake up calls I have known someone personally to have had.
Oftentimes, it is only when we push our body to its limits, ignoring all the warning signs or simply choosing to pretend everything is ok that our body will turn around and say "this is your last chance" at which point you have got to make a serious decision..
Do you want to live a life of quality or a short life of care by others?
Richard is testament to the former. He has radically changed his emphasis on building up his fitness and choosing foods that nourish him. He has worked on all these things with consistency but also moderation. We have built his programme up steadily from the moment he left hospital to now. He monitors his blood glucose levels daily. We check in weekly and have implemented small achievable weekly habits.
POSTURE AND OVERALL WELL-BEING
We have also worked on improving his posture as can be seen in the pictures. But it is so much more than about posture. I have seen Richard become a more confident and optimistic person. He has achieved all these things in only a matter of months.
He is driven, yes in part because he never ever wants to end up back in hospital, but also because he feels the huge sense of accomplishment, as well as all the benefits both in his fitness, health and overall well-being.
I am excited to see the next chapter in what Richard will achieve.
I wanted to share his story with you, because no matter where you are or however far you feel you have sunk in your health and well-being, there is still time to turn things around. I will always be here to support you, as your trainer, to get the very best out of you, for you!
